It's been exploding for several hundred years, but it's gaining more steam every decade. The poorer and more distressed a population is, the more it seems to increase. I don't know if this constitutes some kind of theorem, but it does seem to be true.

How are we ever going to control our exploitation of resource, our political and economic and cultural governance, if we can't slow down this growth. It's a huge train heading for a rock face.

The Third World desperately needs to stop making babies. And we here in America need to slow down immigration so we don't end up "relieving" the pressure from outside our borders. Overpopulation is ugly--no amount of "prosperity" will ever protect us from its effects.

Contraception is the primary tool in this struggle. The other part of the equation is abortion, when contraception fails, or self-control doesn't prevail.

I don't regard human life as sacred. Humans are just animals with sophisticated neural centers. We kill animals and we kill humans all the time, and we live with grinding desperate meaningless lives (of tens of millions of people) every day, every minute. We must try to live in peace and reasonable prosperity. But runaway population will kill every good intention of mankind, if we can't control it.

I don't expect mankind will do it. I will be dead long before the devastation gets really terrible. I have no living descendants, so maybe I don't have a dog in the fight. But I do pity those who will have to live through it. Why were we given higher brains if not to find a way out of the population puzzle?Curtis Favillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06213075853354387634noreply@blogger.com
